He directed 22 films including classics such as Darr, Dil To Pagal Hai, and Veer-Zaara. In addition to direction, he established India’s largest production company, Yash Raj Films, in 1976. They have produced over 60 films to date including blockbusters, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Mohabbatein, Chak De! India, and Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi. They have also helped distribute 44 films to date including Karan Johar’s Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Kal Ho Naa Ho and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna.
He was a father figure and frequent collaborator of Shahrukh Khan’s. Their final film together, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, will release on November 13, 2012. This Diwali.
